Here is a link to the meet information and events.  (Cuyahoga falls moved up their deadline so we need to get the entries in soon...)

December 14, 2009

There’s a lot going on this week as we head towards the New Year. Read all about what to expect in the weeks ahead.

Christmas Party! – We will be having our annual Neptune Christmas party tomorrow - Tuesday, December 15. We will still be having the High School practice from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., but then the party will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. If your last name begins with an A through K – bring a sweet (cookies, cupcakes, donuts, etc.) those whose last names begin with L through Z - bring a non-sweet item to eat (chips, fruit, subs cut into small slices, veggies and dip, chicken wings, etc.); The team will provide pizza and drinks. We will be using the shallow pool for fun swim and the Youth Lobby will be where we all eat. We will also be hosting a variety of Reindeer Games so come ready to have fun and eat great food.

Fifth Meet News – We swim Lake County West this Saturday, December 19 at our pool. Be at our pool at 11:15 a.m. We warm-up at 11:30 a.m. and the meet starts at 12:30. Remember to wear something on your feet to and from the gym to the pool. Parents - Be sure to sign up to work the meet and also be sure to sign-up to donate an item to the concession stand. Thanks in advance.

Holiday practice schedule – Practice this week will run the same as always, except on Tuesday when we have our Christmas Party. But things will change the following two weeks. We will have practice next week on Monday, December 21; Tuesday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 23. There will be no practice on Thursday, December 24 or Friday, December 25. Merry Christmas everyone! The following week’s practice schedule will be the same – practice on Monday, December 28; Tuesday, December 29 and Wednesday, December 30. But there will be no practice on Thursday, December 31 - New Year’s Eve or on Friday, January 1, 2010. Boy that was hard to type! Happy New Year! Our normal practice schedule will then resume beginning Monday, January 4th and our first meet of the New Year will take place on Saturday, January 9th

King Neptune Challenge

Attention All Neptune Swimmers from Coach Sue...

It's smack-down time. Time to see what you're made of. Time to put purpose in your practice.

Time for the King Neptune Challenge!!

What is the King Neptune Challenge you ask? Let me tell ya...

Any swimmer who swims every dual meet event offered for their age group over the course of the Neptune swim season will have conquered the King Neptune Challenge. The events swum can be done at Neptune dual meets, YMCA invitationals or USA meets. You must finish each event and not be disqualified. So if the breaststroke kick is daunting, better get it legal. If the 100 fly seems impossible, better focus on that stroke in practice.

Everyone is automatically pre-entered into the King Neptune Challenge, but who will succeed?

REQUIREMENTS

*  8 & Unders must swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and do the 50 yard freestyle.

*  9 & 10s and 11 & 12s must swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as a 200 free, 100 free and 100 IM (individual medley).

*  13 & 14 and 15 & Over swimmers must swim a 50 of freestyle, a 100 of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as a 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle.

All swimmers who complete the King Neptune Challenge will win a cool King Neptune Challenge pin to put on their swim bag; warm-up jacket; high schoolers - put the pin on your swim letter.

The Pin is the award.

***High school swimmers, please turn in your times and events to Coach Sue when you swim at high school meets to meet the eligibility requirements for this award.  Thank you.

Home Meet Do's and Don't

Remember we share our YMCA with other members...even during HOME meets.

Here are a few do's and don'ts to remember:

 DO

 DON'T

DO Enjoy your snacks in the Youth Lobby

DON'T Sneak a snack in the gym area

DO WALK through our halls and deck area with your shoes on.

DON'T RUN to any area of the YMCA

DO - NEPTUNE families are encouraged to use the RIGHT half of the gym.

DON'T Forget to welcome our visitors

DO -  NEPTUNE families are encouraged to network with other families (in different age groups) so that eveyone can see their child swim.  This is important when sitting in the bleachers.
